The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was revealed a few months ago, but GM has been a bit hush on details for the new muscle car’s performance. Now we finally have the low down on just how fast this new Camaro really is. According to GM, the slowest Camaro is the 2.0-liter Turbo car with an automatic transmission. It will reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. The fastest of the Camaros is the SS with the 6.2-liter V8 and eight-speed automatic transmission. It cracks the 60 mark in just four seconds dead.

A big portion of this increased speed is down to reduced mass. Thanks to a focus on cutting weight, and the car’s new platform, every Camaro has lost more than 220 pounds with the biggest change coming for the new Turbo car. The 2.0T Camaro weighs an incredible 390 pounds less than last year’s base V6 model.

Along with the increased speed comes better handling thanks to new rubber and revised suspension tuning. The base Camaro is good to pull 0.85 g on the skidpad, with the big-daddy SS pulling .97g.

The new Mustang is going to have a serious fight on its hands when the 2016 Camaro hits dealership floors.
