Audi of America and SkyGrid have launched the 24 Hours of Le Mans Experience so that people using SkyGrid for iPad can access the latest news and high-definition multimedia Audi content related to the grueling motorsports event as it unfolds in France this weekend.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans stands as the world’s oldest endurance race, dating back to 1923. Audi teams have won the storied competition eight of the past 10 years. Final preparations for the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans are underway this week, with the race beginning June 12 at 9 am U.S. EDT. To bring the drama and strategy of the race to life this year, Audi turned to SkyGrid, which is the only stream-browsing experience on the Web today. The resulting exclusive experience is the first iPad application of its kind for any automaker.

“Audi has been at the forefront of finding innovative ways to share its performance story and brand momentum,” said Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer, Audi of America. “Our partnership with SkyGrid will now deliver that experience in the engaging framework of the iPad.”

Using iPad’s large display and innovative Multi-Touch interface, automotive enthusiasts, racing fans and technophiles alike will be able to experience high-definition Audi driving experiences as well as live streaming of the Le Mans experience. Among the features, will be live streaming in-car video throughout the 24-hour race from all three Audi cars.

“We’re enthusiastic to be able to partner with Audi and create this exciting experience for everyone with an iPad,” said Kevin Pomplun, founder and CEO of SkyGrid. “The SkyGrid platform combined with iPad’s large display, innovative Multi-Touch user interface, and revolutionary software, has created an amazing new way for people to interact with the brands they care about.”
