Is Alfa Romeo readying a large rear-wheel drive sedan? According to reports, the Italian automaker may be working on a companion to the next-generation Maserati Quattroporte. The executive cruiser was originally rumored to be built on the 159 platform, but packaging concerns quashed that idea.
Expected in 2009, the super saloon could be the marque’s first rear-drive production car in almost 15 years (1992’s 75 was the last Alfa so-configured), provided the 8C doesn’t beat it to market.
Given that the next QP is almost assuredly be designed with the U.S. in mind, we can’t help but wonder if the car will also be a part of the Italian automaker’s resurgence in North America.
