BMW Group is currently hiring and is looking to fill approximately 3,500 new positions by the end of the 2011 year. In a statement issued by BMW, about half of those potential employees will find work in the company’s home turf: Germany. About 1,800 workers should have jobs in Munich headquarters and development while the other 1,700 will be placed in facilities around the globe.

“We need new associates to help us meet the consistently strong demand that has developed for our vehicles and to offset natural wastage within the company. In addition, as we prepare for the future, we are focusing on taking on specialists and engineers who will work in future technologies,” said Harald Krüger, BMW AG Board Member for Personnel.

According to Krüger, specialists in the field of electrical engineering and lightweight body construction are wanted. In addition, IT specialists and software engineers are being interviewed which begs the question: for what? BMW is getting ready to launch their own, fully electric vehicle technology that will be found in their i3 car. Development for that is taking place at the Leipzig plant and production is currently set to begin in 2013. The reasoning for IT specialists and software engineers could potentially be for the next generation of BMW’s iDrive control system. The industry will simply have to keep its eyes peeled for the real answer.
