In the long legacy of the supercar, many consider the Genesis to be the Lamborghini Miura. Back in 1966, this beautiful wedge shape with its large V 12 engine was unlike anything the world had really seen before. The original model was dubbed the P 400, and its 3.9-liter V-12 engine produced 350 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque. That was enough power to push this car to nearly 170 mph, making it the fastest production car in the world.

It is because of this unique car that the Lamborghini we know and love today even exists. There would be no Countach, there would be no Diablo, and there would certainly be no Aventador without the original, without the Miura. It is because of this car’s contributions to the definition of a supercar that we have chosen it for #SupercarSunday.

To celebrate this great car, take a look at our gallery of photos and then feel free to watch Top Gear’s review of the Miura with British pop star Jay Kay.
