Authorities have confirmed they are investigating a viral Internet video that shows a driver in a Lamborghini who claims to be driving at 219 mph on an Arizona highway.

"This is still an ongoing investigation," Lt. James W. Warriner, a spokesman for the Airzona Department of Public Safety, told ABC News. "We will not be commenting until the investigation is complete."

The video, originally posted on YouTube, runs more than four minutes long and appears to be professionally produced.

In the nighttime footage, an unidentified thrill seeker in a gold Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 appears to be pushing the vehicle to within 1 mph of the its 220 mph maximum. At the tail end of the clip, an unseen man is heard claiming the achievement as a new record.

"I'm the driver, and this is a world speed record for an LP640," the man says -- "219 mph, try to beat that."

Before the driver speaks, a man identified by the name of Christian, whose face is visible, claims that he was in the passenger seat when the car hit 219 mph along an Arizona freeway traveled by thousands of motorists each day.

"To the nonbelievers out there, 219 is possible," Christian says.

The video, introduced with graphics claiming the Web sites www.205mph.com and www.azstreetscene.com as sponsors, contains footage shot from both inside the moving Lamborghini as well as from a stationary post along the road.

Several runs are filmed in which the driver and a passenger can be seen hitting higher and higher marks, first 211 mph, then 214 mph before the finale. At one point the car can be seen in a parking lot with characteristic gull-winged doors opened.

In the final run, the car approaches a straightaway after bending into a curve at 170 mph. "Here we go," a voice says over the purr of the luxury car's engine. The dashboard camera reveals the speed: 219 mph.

The Web site www.205mph.com featured in the Lamborghini clip has been pulled down. Lee and Aaron Benson, founders of the other Web site, www.arizonastreetscene.com, a car club formed in April 2006, did not respond to e-mails sent by ABC News.

KPHO, a CBS affiliate in Phoenix, reported that the Lamborghini featured in the video is owned by a dentist named Robert Simyar, who also operates an online modeling agency. A photo of a brown Lamborghini is featured on his Web site www.simyar.com under the caption "My new daily driver."

Simyar did not respond to an e-mail sent by ABC News.

Warriner, the spokesman for the Arizona Public Safety Department, did not confirm they are investigating Simyar but said they are reviewing the video closely.

The company says it strove to maintain the car's "visual integrity" with the changes. Glass fabrication was a particular challenge, the company said. "We relied on our aerospace and coachworks divisions to make sure Shaq could fit in the car, but the naked eye could not detect any differences from the original Gallardo," Gaffoglio CEO George Gaffoglio said.

Asus has already given its premium Lamborghini-branded laptops a few upgrades, but the company's now seen fit to give the line a more significant spec bump, announcing the second-gen VX2 series.

While the model name would seem to suggest more than just a few tweaks, Asus is keeping most of the details under wraps for the time being, only going so far to say that it'll ship with Windows Vista and be based on Intel's Core 2 Duo-based Centrino Duo Mobile platform.

Otherwise, Asus is mostly talking up the laptop's fit and finish, including its aluminum-magnesium alloy or carbon fiber casing (depending on the model), a metallic keyboard, a leather-bound palm rest, and a "glare-type LCD display," although we're not sure they should be bragging about that last feature.

Unfortunately, Asus is also staying quiet on pricing and availability, so you'll have to make do without that added glare for a little while longer.

We had the better part of thirty minutes Sunday with Lamborghini boss (and most beautiful man in the car business) Stephan Winkelmann and we ran every Lambo question in the book past him. How about that Rambo Lambo super SUV? An Espada-style front-engine 2+2? The Miura in a different configuration someday given the fact that the Ferrari Dino is a-coming?

Nothing. Based on the straight responses Signor Winkelmann provided, Lamborghini is not planning on doing anything for the next ten years and will simply exist with mild Gallardo and Murcièlago tweaks until the factory just evaporates.

No but seriously, reading ‘tween the lines, there is indeed a V10-powered super SUV coming by mid-2009 and it will definitely share the platform with the new Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg, and Audi Q7. The next priority on the future list is that 2+2 front-engined V12 inspired somewhat by the old Espada.

Lamborghini will, in the meantime, slowly grow sales worldwide and focus on improving its bottom line margin year after year. Overall profits for 2006 range between four and five percent, a big increase over 2005 profits of 1.7 percent. Winkelmann states that instead of repeating the 26 percent sales growth between 2005 (1600 cars sold) and 2006 (2087 sold), growth will be slowed to just eight percent during 2007 while the company focuses more on popularizing the brand on t-shirts and caps, and improves network efficiencies to maximize profits.

But what of Concept S? More Versace versions? Gallardo Nera? Lightweight versions? Rear-wheel drive? Direct-injection engines?

All of these will be pursued between now and the 2010 deliveries of Lambo SUVs. In fact, at March’s Geneva show we’ll see a much lighter weight Gallardo prototype edition that could possibly have rear-wheel drive.
