Marcus and Mitch Weller officially made history earlier this week by announcing full-scale production of the world’s first motorcycle helmet equipped with a fully interactive heads-up display. This is not just a helmet; this is the future of riding.

The attention to detail on the AR-1 is almost overwhelming, starting with the base material used as a liner inside the shell. The Skully Team utilized a material called Outlast. Initially developed by NASA to maintain proper operating temperatures, it doesn’t absorb or dissipate heat but instead it simply regulates each. The Skully is equipped with a photo chromatic visor that is adaptive depending on the amount of sunlight being projected onto the visor at any particular moment, allowing you to keep your vision clear on the back roads but taking the glare off your workday commute as well.

However, the meat and potatoes of why this helmet is a game changer is the amount of external support provided by an app specifically developed for the helmet and an AI that’s voice activated to help segway communications from Siri to the Skully smoothly. The beauty of information is oftentimes overlooked, but at any given moment a rider’s senses are being flooded with a 180-degree rear-view camera perspective, current speed, and any GPS navigation details that are prompted on the display.

This is only the beginning of a journey that will provide riders of tomorrow with a plethora of relevant information allowing riders to focus more on what lies ahead, and less on what’s happening around them as the helmet is doing that task seamlessly without any interference. Why would anyone ever pay $1,500.00 for a motorcycle helmet? For starters, it’s not just a helmet–it’s the Skully AR-1, so why wouldn’t you? Besides, have you seen this thing? It looks incredible!
