Safety is an ever growing concern for millions of drivers every year, and the automakers are doing everything they can to ensure that they are making the safest cars on the market. In the big safety battle, Volkswagen has one more feather to add to its cap with an announcement yesterday that the Golf and Jetta have both received Top Safety Pick+ designations from the IIHS.

Now technically, not every Golf model has been awarded the new safety designation, as the Golf R didn’t make the cut, but the base Golf, TDI, Sportwagen and GTI all get the extra safety credentials. The new award has been handed out to the pair of Volkswagens thanks to the addition of new active safety technology like adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), an active Lane Departure Warning system (Lane Assist), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

The new cars should be hitting show rooms soon. If you want an even safer Volkswagen Golf or Jetta model, you can order one now.
