Volkswagen’s TDI troubles are much larger than anyone could even begin to imagine. In the days since the announcement was first made that VW was being charged by the EPA, there have been a lot more details leak out. Firstly, VW head CEO Martin Winterkorn has issued an apology to the public, which in itself seems like a pretty solid admission of guilt for a lot of things. Secondly, VW engineers have actually confessed to there being a defeat protocol in the ECU that is illegal and fudges emissions results.

There is no investigation here folks, Volkswagen is 100-percent in the wrong, now it is just a process of figuring who is responsible and how much it will cost them.

But things don’t just stop here in the US. Besides our nearly half-million cars with affected engines, it has been revealed that as many as 11-million VWs worldwide have this illegal software and are each one is spewing exponentially more harmful emissions than legally allowed.

This is still an ongoing development for the company, but it feels pretty safe to say that things are only going to get worse from here.
