Volvo Could Produce a Hot-Rod V40

By on Monday, July 16th, 2012

The Volvo V40 is the type of Volvo people know and love.  It’s spacious, compact, efficient, funky, useful, safe and secure all while coming in a variety of flavors.  Both gasoline and diesel variants are available and while some can return decent acceleration times, there is still a hot-rod flare that is missing from car’s portfolio.  Even though the V40 has only been on the European market for a few months now, plans are already being made to bring forth a corner carving, pavement spitting and highway bombing Polestar version.

Taking a cue from other one-off Polestar show cars, the V40 might have a better chance of reaching the public’s hands than other offerings.  According to an Autoblog article, the car will use a modified version of the tried and true 2.5 liter turbocharged inline five cylinder engine.  Spinning all four wheels should be about 280 horsepower which could rocket the car into MazdaSpeed 3 territory.  Expected to be first showcased at this year’s Paris Motor Show, the V40 Polestar would hit the market sometime next year but more than likely, it too will be a European exclusive.
