I had my 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight tow to the shop because it wouldnt start

after i drove it to the store? and i guess they put the csr on a computer to see what was wrong with it and they said the timing chain was bad so i dont know if it broke or it just bad.i have a non-interface engine would i have to have my oil pan drop to clean it and what price range is im looking at for repair i called one place and they said 1100 and the next said 450-500 so i dont know what price is right i mean the car was running like it was knew and smooth intill i went to the store and i came out and it wouldnt start
