2000 (W reg) 1.8 petrol freelander. Had new engine fitted. Had new battery, plugs etc. When trying to start it winds over and over, you get anodd splutter as if it wants to but it just won't. Been on computer at garage, compression quite low. He reckoned to take it for a long fun as the pistons may be sticking. Got it started eventually, gave it a run. Next day, non starter again.Runs perfectly when you get it going. Any serious suggestions much appreciated.
Been back to the garage twice, took it back today. They don't seem to have much idea!

possibly rubbish in carburettor/ injectors have you driven it nearly out of fuel or left it standing for a long time? may be worth looking at....

Get it carted back to the people who did all the work, and stand over them with a good lawyer until it starts first time!

too many thing to diagnose without actually seeing the freelander, but try the basics first, check for fuel and check for a spark, check for any loose wires.
if you have a spark but still not running try some carb cleaner sprayed into the air inlet pipe (attached to airfilter box) if it fires then it's a fuel problem.
on the freelander if the battery is removed the ecu (immobiliser) sometimes needs to be reset, but as you've had it running it shouldn't be that.

good luck
