Should you take your vehicle to the dealer or private shop?

If your car is still under warranty, by all means take it to a dealer -- preferibly the dealer from whom you bought it, as they will want your return business. They also have certified mechanics and all the necessary diagnostic tools.

If it's out of warranty, and there's a private mechanic you have been able to trust in the past, or who has been recommended, by all means take it to him. There will be a more personal relationship, plus it will be much cheaper if anything serious is wrong.

Its up to you.whatever place makes you feel more comfortable. It would be wise to go to the dealer at least once a year for say an oil change or something. This way they can check for any open recalls.

Dealer, their people are required to take training. Also, if your service is bad you can call the manufacturer and complain.

Well if you need to carry out preventive maintenance for example, taking your vehicle to a private shop will not affect your warranty. Dealers charge an obscene amount of money whereas a private shop can complete the job for you cheaper and to the same quality.
