Hi everyone, I need some help. I own a 1994 Oldsmobile 88 and I was told it is leaking antifreeze. I got a quote to repair the lower intake manifold gasket and valve cover gasket along with a cooling flush for $360.00. However, a friend took me to another mechanic (backyard) who told me he would replace the valve cover gasket for $85.00. Also, he said he would use a sealer for the intake manifold gasket and see if that works before spending money to replace it, he also stated that a cooling flush is not required just a way for automotive shops to make money. I don't know if I should pay the $360.00 or try the quick fix for $85.00. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
The engine is 3.8.
No it is not overheating. It runs fine and I have no check engine light. I didn't even know anything was wrong with it until I took it to get an oil change. Thanks for the quick responses, God bless!
I think I'm going to let the shop repair it for $360.00 and be done with it. Although the mechanic did state that sometimes the upper intake manifold gasket can go bad as well.
