Ok I have been searching for about a month now trying to figure out what is causing the engine knock in my engine. I own a 1966 Cadillac Deville with a 429 V8. I bought it from a car lot that claimed to have rebuilt the engine. I say lies. When I start the engine in the morning there is no knock then when the engine warms up to operating temp the knock rears its ugly head. As I accelerate the knock speeds up and when i decelerate the knock slows. It is coming from the right valve cover. There is a severe oil leak coming from underneath the engine . I don't know if this would have something to do with it. I was also told that I most likely have hardly any oil pressure and my lifters could be screwing up. I have only driven the car once since I discovered the issue. Can anyone help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you guys so much for the help I really do appreciate it. I tried getting the valve cover off but it seems to be really stuck on there good. Any ideas on how to pry it off? I live in deep south Texas in the McAllen area so all year round it is usually in the 70s/80s and rarely drops into the 60s/50s. I gave it a better listen and it seems to be coming from the front of the right valve cover the area closest to the belts. Right now Im running 10W30 Royal Purple Synthetic Oil. I used marvel mystery oil for a while until the car shook off all the cob webs. The engine has never stalled on me at all or bogged down it is just that annoying knock all the time. Around the engine area it sounds like a puff of air but the exhaust amplifies it and it sounds like a hard knock through the end of the exhaust.
