The serpentine belt is for driving the externally mounted mechanisms like the water pump, the alternator and AC compressor, etc. The timing chain is internal in the front cover of the engine and drives the camshaft. They have two completely different functions.
To clarify even further if your car did have a timing belt, it would still have a serpentine belt.
