Hi there
I've done something a tad silly... I was in a rush to top up on engine oil before I left on a long journey and emptied about half a cup full of engine oil into the power steering reservoir (marked ATF oil only). I very quickly realised my mistake and scooped out as much as I could with a nearby bottle top (damn kids littering my driveway...!), but obviously there was still some engine oil left in there.
I understand this oil will be of a totally different grade/type to ATF power steering oil, but will it do any harm? The steering still feels absolutely fine but I'm worried that the wrong type of fluid may cause some damage over time (someone made a comment on a forum about wrong fluids causing permature wear to seals and hoses).
Anyone have any ideas if this will cause any problems? I rang up the local BMW specialists (not main dealer) and they wanted a sizable 129 pounds (that's 260 dollars) just to drain and replace....
Thanks
Mr Rossi
