Fuel Pump. I'm helping a friend fix a 1996 GMC Sierra Truck. It keeps stalling out.?

it would probably be better since the pump is failing as it is. you dont want it to burn out while you're on the freeway.

We replaced the fuel filter and it's still happening. The fuel pump sometimes kicks on and and starts, and sometimes it doesn't.

Will repacing the pump fix it or do you think it's something worse?
Ok. It's definitely the pump. You can hear the pump go on, then the engine goes on. When the pump stops, the engine stops. If you tap on the tank, the pump starts and the engine starts.

I'm getting the book tomorrow. He doesn't want to buy a new pump and wants me to try and fix it.

Any advice?

Check the wiring, it could be damaged or rusted. Whack on the tank when its not working, if it starts the pump is most likely bad.
