ok i bought an x reg fiat seicento 1 week ago, i have done 300 miles and cam belt gone, have been told by someone that its not to big a problem as the seicento sporting has a safe engine??????????????

Is this true or am i , as i think, looking at major repair costs

It does have a safe / non-interference engine so it should be ok...however at just 300 miles....the cam belt definitely should not have gone out...get them to replace it for you...which they would do...since you bought it only a week ago....cam belts are typically changed at every 54k miles or every 5 yrs...depending on which comes first....
