How do I get the code to re-code my 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage car stereo?

This morning I had to have a jump-start as my battery was dead. Apparently, the stereo's anti-theft device was tripped and now it thinks it has been disconnected from the battery, so it says, "CODE" and will do nothing else. My owner's manual says I should have a card with the code on it, but I purchased the car 5 years ago, used, and was given no such card. Does anyone know how to recode the stereo, please?
ADDING DETAIL: I bought it from a used car dealer, NOT a Mitsubishi dealer, and there is not a Mitsubishi dealer in my area.

you are probably out of luck. best thing to do is contact the dealer, they might be able to look it up for you..make sure you bring proof you own the car...
