How far does a car need to drift in one direction to warrant a tire alignment?

For example, my car drifts to the right slightly whenever I let go of the steering. Even if I steer to the left beforehand, it always goes to the right. But don't all cars drift to some extent? After all, that's why you have to keep steering the car, right?

If it is consistently drifting, you should get an alignment. If you don't do this, the tires could wear inevenly and it will be more expensive in the long run.
