How to connect GPS in mitsubishi galant 1998 car?

I have adapter with me which i connect to cigeratte lignation,but in GPS it doesnt show as it was charging.Did i need to switch on something.help me plz

p-lug in the lighter and see if it works if it does then there is a problem with the plug if not either the fuse is blown or the lighter is shot or it came unplugged in the back if it is the lighter you can pick up a new one for about 10 bucks at the parts store
