Hyundai Lantra auto gearshifter problem?

I have noticed that i cannot get my auto into drive.Normally when you put your foot on the break peddel the gearshifter clicks as if to unlock,but it no longer makes this noise so is there a way of finding out where this is being activated and if the unit is faulty how to change
