Reliability wise they are about equal.The sonata is roomier and has a larger trunk.but the corolla gets better gas mileage.Personally I would rent the sonata as I am a large person and would prefer the roomier interior.But you should see which one can haul what you are bringing with you and you feel comfortable sitting in for a extended time and let that be your deciding motive.
