I just got a 2003 used Freelander Land Rover. IT has started to over heat...

...and smoke from the right front hood. I am wondering what in the world it could be. I'm going to take it in but I hope it is not something really bad. I haven't even made my first payment on it yet and its starting this. I just drive it normal to, I haven't done anything to cause it. So yea I'm pretty upset about this.
 
May be as simple as under filled with coolant.Is the temperature gage up in the high end or normal?Check the level.and the gage.You may need to bleed the system for air locks .If it is heating it could be a head gasket.Do not fill above the full mark.Leave cover off. run engine and check for bubbles from compression to indicate head gasket.

who did you buy the car from if it is a dealer take it back. if not i would try to sell it this will get real expensive to fix yourself
