...shop for new auto insurance? I am considering putting a freeze on my credit. However, there are so many auto insurance comapnies that now check some sort of credit score when determining premiums Are there enough left out there that don't do this for me to be able to get insurance? Or will I have to temporarily thaw my reports before I get an insurance quote?
As I understand it, a credit freeze keeps new creditors from looking at your credit report and score. Existing creditors still see it and add info to it, but you cannot get any new credit while it is frozen. I am interested in this because I no longer use debt at all, and I don't want anyone looking at my report without me specifically giving permission for them to do so. The only area I can think of where this might hurt me is in getting insurance. It takes 3 days to thaw a frozen credit report.
