Is a Ducati S4R a bad idea for a first bike?

I was wondering because it isn't a sports bike so the torque and speed won't be as quick as an identical 998cc.
What about the new Monster 695?

I agree with rotus, also, I was an LEO for awhile and saw many young people get a bike like that and end up with their brains splashed on the hiway. Start smaller, also, check for a local riding school. It will make you a better rider and most insurance gives a 10 - 20 % discount
