Is it bad that a car got a new engine at 114,000 miles on a 2002 nissan altima?

Most engines last over 200000 miles. Now that being said a new engine is a good thing, it means the engine it self has almost no miles on it. My question is what caused the old engine to need replacing? And did what ever break the old engine cause any transmission trouble either now or in the future?
