We bought our Mazda 5 in February this year it is now 2 1/2 year old. It was serviced when we got it by the mazda dealer @ 22581 miles it now has 31500 miles so we have nearly done 9000 miles the service book says it is due another service @ 12 months or 12500 miles but one brake pad has worn right down and damaged the brake disc. Does anybody know where we stand? Thankyou!! Im going out now for a few hours ill have a look at your answers when i return Many thanks to you all

Unless you can prove it was faulty when you bought it there is little you can do.
Brakes can fail thru use and they could turn round and say it is fair wear and tear.
It could be down to a sticky caliper or non returning brake piston caused by corrosion - in which case this can happen to any car -
Best job is to get it checked over - or do it yourself - it isn't difficult to do and should only take about 20 mins per side.

Brake pads are a consumable part and are designed to wear out.They have a minimum thickness recommendation from the manufacturers,usually about 3mm,at which point they should be changed.If they were above this when the car was serviced then the mechanic didn't have to change them.It's very difficult to say what mileage you should get from a set of brake pads because driving styles and the type of roads you drive on all come into the equation.Someone doing a lot of motorway driving will get more miles out of them than someone who drives around town and doing a lot of stop/start driving.
