My 1997 Ford Escort was rear-ended recently. Then my car would not start.?

The police tried to reset the button in the rear of the car so it would start up. My car refused to start, it would not even try to turn over. It was towed to a Ford Dealership where I was told it needed a battery. A new battery was installed. My car started but when I drove it home I noticed a picture of a battery with + and - sign that keeps blinking. Has my alternator gone bad too? Is this due to the accident? My insurance says it has nothing to do with the rear end accident. Up until the time of the accident I had no troubles with the battery or the alternator. Does anyone have any idea or explanation? Help.

The impact of the accident could have dislodged something causing a short in your electrical system. Take the car back to Ford and have them check it out. If the accident was the other guys fault and the insurance company is paying for the repairs, they need to make the repairs.

I know the feeling and I feel for you. My daughter is on her second 1998 Ford Escort. Her boy fried rear ended a guy last year in her first one. $450 damage to body. However air bags deployed. $1,800.00 for air bags and $125.00 for windshield they broke. Outcome...Insurance company totaled car. Gave us $3,500.00

Good Luck
