COLORADO SPRINGS — July 13, 2006 — The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the third largest auto insurance group in the country and fifth largest in Colorado, has completed construction of its data center and document production facility in Colorado Springs. Over the next several months, Progressive will install the systems required to further ensure uninterrupted service to the more than 13.5 million drivers it insures and the more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies that choose to represent the group's Drive® Insurance from Progressive brand throughout the U.S.

The company broke ground on the two-building, 175,000 square-foot project in June 2005. More than 140 people are expected to be employed here; 39 are on-board today and more than 60 IT openings are slated to be filled by year end. Current plans are to hire more than 40 additional people in 2007.

"These jobs are critical to delivering on our customer service commitment. Whether you're an independent agent representing Drive® Insurance from Progressive or you're a customer insured with Progressive Direct®, you've come to expect around-the-clock service from a company that makes car insurance easy. This center and its people further ensure our ability to deliver on that commitment," said Progressive Chief Information Officer Ray Voelker.

The data center provides IT resources similar to those in a facility opened in 2001 in the company's headquarter city, Mayfield Village, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb. The document production facility will add to the capacity of an existing site in Mayfield Village; together, the Colorado Springs and Mayfield Village sites will produce and prepare for mailing some 55 million policy documents each year.

The two buildings are located at 650 Sybilla Lane. Progressive also operates a three-building, 322,000 square-foot sales and service call center campus on more than 30 acres in Northgate Corporate Village here. And, it operates seven claims offices throughout the state. All told, Progressive employs more than 1,300 people in Colorado.

"Progressive has a unique work environment that challenges people to risk, learn and grow. It's important that we instill that environment in all of our locations. So, just as we did with the call center campus, we brought out some people from our headquarters to the new data center to ensure that this truly is a Progressive workplace. Now, we want to add local people who want jobs that are challenging and fun," said Voelker.

The 60 current open positions run the gamut of IT careers from security analysts and tape librarians to application programmers and IT managers. These jobs — and other positions — can be found at www.jobs.progressive.com.
