Pulled over with no auto insurance in MN.?

So, I was pulled over for driving on the shoulder. I did not have proof of insurance (only an old card...) The cop said that I should fax in proof that I had the insurance when I was pulled over. Turns out my policy had lapsed and i was NOT insured when I was pulled over. Can anyone tell me what will happen? Do I have to go to court? Or can I pay a fine and fax in proof of my NEW insurance policy? Thanks!

You need to fess up and tell them you did not have coverage. Lying or trying to make it "retroactive" like the other person suggests, will only get you into deeper hot water.

Likely you will have to go to court and pay a fine. If this has happened before, you might have your license suspended.
