I'm getting a strange clunking/shaking/shuddering from my car if i over rev it in 1st gear to go into 2nd, and reverse just
doesn't want to work well. It sounds like that it is coming from underneath the car, each time it happens it feels like its coming off something then banging back down onto something (very technical i know!). I was wondering if maybe my gear box maybe going, or clutch? I have been told by one person that its the drive shaft and the teeth have worn out completely?
And another person has told me it can't be the drive shaft because thats what holds the wheels on and if it was the drive shaft then I wouldn't be able to drive it at all!
My car is perfectly drivable still if I am gentle with it, there is no change in performance and no loss of power on gear changes up hill etc. I know its not the engine mounts that need replacing because I had those done earlier this year, and I know what that sounds like when they are gone!
The car is about 12 years old and had done just over 45,000 miles.
