2003 Subaru Forester 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 35000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Subaru Forester 2003
Under severe cold conditions -25 Cel, if I leave it parked outside overnight, in the morning, it will start, first shot, no problem. Let it run for about 10 to 15 minutes, shut it off. If I try to "restart" it within a few hours, fails to start. Yet the engine is cranking, the bat terminal on the alternator is at 14.2 and the batter is at 12.4 volts. While the temperature beings to warmup during the day, -17 Cel, it will start.
This issue ONLY occurs when it has been exposed to severe cold weather for hours.
What I don't understand is, why it starts initially, allows the warmup, allows me to drive to the corner store for my morning coffee with no problem, yet 1 hour later fails to start. When it fails to start, the engine cranks fine, I keep trying until the battery is close to a complete drain. (***Putting the gas pedal to the floor doesn't help***). After I make it sit there for a few hours, presto, starts again.
Note ...I only have this problem under severe cold conditions ...at -10C to -15C, the problem has never / ever been experienced
I am at a complete loss.
Someone please help
