vauxhall astra, not much power and seems to chug like a train when i start it up?

when i say chug like a train the engine seems to be doing it in the lower revs . . . . when i rev it up about 2000 2500 revs its seems just to sound like a normal petrol engine .. smooth and not thumping

what the hell is wrong please help
its a 1998 or 1997
i know its a r reg and its the acrtic edition

Sounds like a worn Cam as long as you are sure the timing is set up correctly and not damp.. (also check the ECU brain unit)
