We're about to look at a land rover defender any advice??

I am thinking about buying a land rover defender 110,1990, that has been fitted with a discover engine thathas only 50k on the clock, am i looking at trouble?? I am going to see it today, what should i look out for? Thanks

From what I understand, maintenance will be very expensive. My co-worker has a Land Rover (not sure which model) and new breaks costs him $1200.
