What`s the reason Toyota overtaking Generalmotors?

Toyota company in Japan manufactured lots of variety in Lexus catogry and introduced in the world market,steady sales are going on, but what sort of efforts been made from general motor side to equal that or overtaking that

They give what people want, use top quality parts and hire constantly trained mechanics, there prices have only gone up less than 2% since 1997. They are safest car to drive and get MPG that cannot be matched. They might not make a super fast car but that part of market is so small that they can sell 1000 camry's to 1 Supra if they were still being made. ( Stats from past when they did not have half the market share they do now.) Gm has to pay so many pensions and such they are not only pushed from past but front. They have to make a good vehicle, pay trillions in pensions from past, make money, and stay in price range that GM quality forced them into. It is tough to overthrow a rep like Toyota or Honda and stay any where near their price point they would have to be at. So out goes there quality and so does rep.
