What vehicle gets the best MPG that is NOT a hybrid?

only 4 doors - not trucks - thanks to answers!
I want good gas mileage and something that will fit 2 car seats and a double stroller in the back!

You should purchase a Honda Civic. They are VERY reliable and get very good MPG. If you take care of it very well, it can last you a very long time. (There was this Honda Civic that got taken care very well and had about 1,000,000 miles on it)

No problem! I'll sell you my VW Jetta TDI (turbo diesel injection) station wagon when it wears out. It's an '03 with 147,000 trouble-free miles on it, AVERAGES 48 mpg, has every luxury option and will outrun almost anything from a stoplight and be doin' 90 on the interstate before you know it!
Seriously, find a good used one if you can, or hang in there another 7 months for a new one . . . (hint, put your order in now!) VW was temporarily put out of the diesel business in the U.S. during the past year due to idiotic, counter-productive American regulations, but a new diesel engine, which will be available on most VW models, is due out by summer '08.
Best car I've ever owned, and over the past 43 years I've owned about half the cars you can name, foreign and domestic!
