Why is the clutch pedal on my 06 hyundai elantra so hard to push down?

Sometimes its hard to shift gears as well, but not always, my main problem is the pedal being hard to push

the clutch may have been put in wrong or u arent used to driving a standard. ur legs n knees get tired but u get used to it. check with the car dealer i say.

Has it been hard since you got it? It could just be strong clutch springs. I'd be worried if it was too easy. That usually means something's leaking.

Could be a new clutch or spring.....The spring may be a high strength spring intended to keep you from riding the clutch thus extending the life of the clutch
