Volkswagen beetle mileage?

i am going to buy a vw beetle 2000 manual transmission for 2500$. Should i buy it or not?is it the time for the engine to die soon? what is the most that beetle engine can do?
what other problems can i face in the near future?
or i am being offerred a kia spectra 2004 with 50 k mileage? but i heard that korean cars are mless reliabe and are costly to repair
give me a bit of information please

Congratulations, you have located one of the few vehicles which DOESN'T compare favorably against Korean cars in reliability.

Actually, Korean cars, particularly Hyundai, aren't so bad these days, and about 04 is where they started to seriously get not so bad. Still, Kia isn't exactly leading that trend.

The thing is VWs from that era are notorious money pits. Electrical problems, mainly. Like the Kia, you could luck out and get one that's got no problems and never will develop any, but chances are you won't, and chances are that's why it's only 2500 dollars.

In favor of the VW: It is more stylish and will be more fun to drive than any US-market Kia.

They're both pretty bad ideas, though.
