The Nissan GT-R is faster both in a straight line and around corners. The GT-R, while no lightweight, still weighs less than the GT500. It also has AWD, superior technology, better suspension and brakes, and more balanced front/rear weight distribution.

The standard GT500 does 0-60 in the mid-4s and 1/4 mile in the high 12s @ ~112-115 mph. Being RWD and nose-heavy, the GT500 has trouble getting its power to the ground - something the AWD, more evenly balanced GT-R doesn't.

More horsepower doesn't help the GT500: the GT500 Super Snake only manages mid-12s at around 119-120 mph, despite having 605 hp on tap. More power doesn't mean much if the car can't get it to the ground, and this is where the GT500 runs into problems. The Super Snake runs through the slalom at 68.4 mph and pulls 0.93 g on the skidpad; the standard GT500 runs about 66 mph in the slalom and .90 g on the skidpad.

In comparison, stock GT-Rs have run 0-60 as fast as 3.3 seconds and have done the 1/4 mile in 11.6 @ 121 mph. Average is high 11s at 116-120 mph. Handling-wise, the GT-R runs through the slalom at 73.4 mph and pulls 1.01 g on the skidpad.

Bottom line: the GT-R is a faster car with more high-end performance potential. It's more expensive than the standard GT500, but it's actually less expensive than the Super Snake... or at least it will be once the initial buying frenzy finishes and dealers lower their markups. :D
