The Texas Auto Writers Association, or TAWA, recently held their annual Auto Roundup event at Texas Motor Speedway and like each edition, the coveted “Car of Texas” award was in the eyes of every manufacturer who attended. While this highest honor is usually rewarded to high-end sports cars like the Nissan GTR and Shelby Mustang, this year’s event sent another precedent for the more accessible and rounded vehicle – the four door sedan. For 2015, the all-new Chrysler 300 has been named “Car of Texas.”

Chrysler has a fairly positive track record with TAWA, having earned multiple category and title trophies at both the Roundup and the truck-centered Rodeo. This year’s win is a bit different as it marks another instance of a non performance car win. While the Chrysler 300 can come in nearly 500 horsepower variety, the base model is a premium cruiser with large care roots. With more 50 journalists weighing in on this year’s decision and a handful of cars judged, including the 707 horsepower Hellcats, the subdued luxury sedan’s win should cement its standing as one of the all-time greats among Americana four doors.

In addition to taking the top spot, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also earned accolades for the SRT Hellcat Charger and Challenger, Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack, Chrysler 200, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, and the Alfa Romeo 4C.
