In 2009, Chrysler LLC made the decision to split up Dodge and its full size pickup to form the stand-alone brand Ram Trucks. Since then, the Ram trucks have been becoming more and more “macho” and Chrysler wants nothing more than to be recognized as having the hardest-working trucks available today. For the 2012 model year, they have made just a few slight adjustments and additions so Ram Trucks can get closer and closer to their goal.

Biggest on the list of new-for-2012 options come in the form of a new model. Dubbed the 2012 Ram Cargo Van, the latest addition is basically a stripped out, purpose-built Dodge Grand Caravan design strictly for hauling. Expanding Ram’s reach into the “Class 1” segment, the Ram Cargo Van features the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, front wheel drive and a covered and empty cargo area.

On the other end of Ram Truck spectrum are the Chassis Cab 5500s. Available with either the 5.7 liter Hemi V8 with 390 horsepower or the Cummins-built 6.7 liter diesel straight six, the heavy-duty Rams are now the only HD pickups to meet 2012 EPA compliance rules, without the need for a Selective Catalytic Reduction and Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Also new for 2012 is the return of the legendary Power Wagon. Purpose built to be able to take on any terrain, this off-road machine features speciality items such as an integrated 12,000lb front winch, electric disconnects for the sway bar, locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch BFGoodrich tires, and a 4.56:1 rear axle ratio. Unlike its jump-hungry competitor, the Ford SVT Raptor, the Power Wagon is designed to be a heavy-duty crawler due to it’s 2500 foundation.

“As a stand-alone brand, Ram Truck is focused on truck customers – how they use their trucks and what features they’d like to see,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico.
