Production of Ford’s Crown Victoria is over which means that soon, police departments around the nation will need a new hero. Chrysler LLC plans to offer up that hero in the form of the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit. Working together with the hod-rod development team at Mopar, Dodge has built six quality tested equipment packages for the new, second generation LX Dodge Charger to aid police officers. All packages are ready-for-action right off the assembly line.

With input from Crown North America, to build emergency lighting, audible warning, communications and safety equipment for the Chargers. Other options such as push bumper, grille lighting, speakers and trunk cooling fans for electronics can be equipped on the Charger Pursuit. Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar said, “We are adding proven, quality-tested tactical equipment to this pursuit vehicle and creating a one-stop shop for police customers. With six quick-order packages, police departments have the ability to customize their vehicles to exact specifications.”

Under the hood can either be the 3.6 liter Pentastart V6 or the 5.7 liter Hemi V8. Power hasn’t changed for either engine, 292 horsepower and 370 horsepower respectively. The Pentastar can support E85 ethanol while the Hemi features cylinder deactivation to up fuel mileage on the highway to an average of 25 mpg. All Pursuits will be rear wheel drive, but differ from the civilian cars with a stiffer suspension. Nivomat, load leveling shocks, stiffer springs and larger anti-roll bars all come on Pursuit Chargers. Vented disc brakes, 18 inch high-performance tires and two-mode police specific electronic stability control round out the packages.

“With rear-wheel-drive, best-in-class V-8 power, seven air bags and up to 27 miles per gallon during highway cruising, the Dodge Charger Pursuit is an excellent police car on its own merits,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Dodge Brand.
