Police officers around the nation have spoken and Chrysler LLC has actually listened. Because of customer demand and the automaker’s Police Advisory Board, the Dodge Charger Pursuit will soon be available with all wheel drive. Not only will the system be paired to the brawny 5.7 liter HEMI V8, but it might just be the most advanced pursuit AWD around.

“Adding available all-wheel-drive capability to the already popular Dodge Charger Pursuit will broaden the Charger’s appeal to police departments that are accustomed to dealing with rough winters and adverse weather conditions,” said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet for Chrysler Group LLC. Unlike permanent AWD systems, the Chargers will be fitted with a segment-exclusive active transfer case. To make things even more interesting, the Dodge will come with a front axle disconnect system so that the right balance between performance and efficiency can be had. The switch will take place, as Chrysler puts it, “seamlessly.” The AWD Charger Pursuits will be available for the 2014 model year.
