Ford Motor Company’s patented media center, SYNC, will now be more widely available. Not only will the optioned price drop but for the first time, it will be offered on a few base trim levels. In order to make the safety of voice controlled media more pronounced, SYNC’s price will be $100 less expensive on all Ford models. It will also be seen on the base trim level for the 2012 Ford Explorer and Edge SUVs.

“Ford SYNC is making a difference. Our customers love it and recommend it, and our dealers want it on more products,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president for U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. Hands-free devices are becoming more and more popular and Ford is adamant that it reduces accidents. According to a study the Consumer Electronics Association, 55 percent of smartphone owners prefer voice-command as an in-car interface. “As the list of states banning hand-held calls and texting while driving continues to grow and legislators ponder a nationwide ban, Ford is strengthening its leadership position as the only full-line automaker with plans to offer available hands-free mobile device connectivity on 100 percent of its passenger vehicle lineup,” said Czubay.
