Project cars will soon have even more options for powerplants as Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) have announced an expansion of their crate engines. These ready-to-go mills are all small block V8s but range from 340 horsepower to up to 600 tire shredding ponies. The 2012 line up is designed to fit nearly any application and budget. Some are even capable of running pump gas which means there should be some serious power to had on the street.

New for 2012 is the Z363 pushrod V8. Displacing 363 cubic inches, the new engine replaces last year’s 347 cubic inch stroker to put out a healthy 500 horsepower and more than 400 lb-ft of torque. The Boss 302 bottom end is the building block for the Z363, so can fit in any car using the old 302 cubic inch V8 or even the 289. A 10:1 compression ratio means that pump gas can be used. If that isn’t big enough, a new 427 cubic inch pushrod has been introduced for street use. The X427 puts out 520 lb-ft of torque via its 7.0 liters and relatively simple design.

To some, pushrods are just too old and Ford isn’t letting those believers down. Taking the newly released 5.0 liter DOHC V8 from the 2012 Mustang, FRPP have created two new “Aluminators.” One is designed with a high-compression ratio with a solely naturally aspirated purpose. Spinning fast and terrifying the public with what must be a sound from the underworld is the reason for the Aluminator NA. To meet the needs of forced induction applications, a “SC” version of the Aluminator features forged pistons and lower compression ratio.
