Ford recalls 1.2M trucks

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 1.2 million trucks with a faulty engine sensor that can cause the diesel motor to suddenly stall.

In a letter posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Internet site, the automaker said the recall involves 1997 to 2003 large trucks that include the F-Super Duty pickups, Excursion SUV and E-series vans. The recalled vehicles are equipped with the 7.3 liter diesel engine.

The letter says the sensor can degrade over time and cause the vehicle engines to stop, which could lead to an accident. Ford said it had 14 reports of accidents or loss of control related to the faulty sensor.

Later this month, Ford will begin notifying customers to bring in their trucks for the free repair.
