91 dodge power steering problem?

I have a 91 dodge 150 with 318 engine(I don't really know that,I am mechanically challenged,but someone told me a 318 engine.When rolling along,I have no problem.When just starting,or from a stop,like coming out of a parking space,it is extremely difficult to turn LEFT.No problem once I'm moving good and no problem ever turning RIGHT.Any suggestions/thoughts for a non mechanic to be able to check first before spending a mint on a mechanic who may or may not be lying to me?Answer me as if to a child.Mechanics is far from my strong point.Thank you.PS It has steering fluid

Either the belt is loose or the fluid is low. That is the normal cause for this problem. If neither, probably a bad valve or pump.
