96 GMC Sub vortec 5.7 It doesn't start w/o holding gas pedal half way down....

...Sluggish to 1200 RPM sometimes. Sometimes it is sluggish betwen 800 - 1200 RPM's when taking off. After I get going it seems to have plenty of power and does not hesitate at higher speeds. Also, sometimes when I put it in gear it will stall out unless I have my foot on the gas pedal.

You will need to replace your fuel fliter. It is very typical of Sub. They normally go bad. The fuel filiter is located underneath the driver's side on the frame.

When your fuel filter goes bad it can make it go sluggish because it is not getting enought fuel to the injectors, so that is also want is make it stall.

Get this fix and you should be good to go. The Filter cost some where between $100 and $150, if you buy it yourself and have a Machanic replace it. The labor and Hours that would depend on where you take it to.

Look for a vacuum leak.
